Health Minister Orders Swift Probe into Assault on Medical Staff at Ridge Hospital
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has instructed investigators to complete a thorough probe into the violent assault on medical staff at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, commonly known as Ridge Hospital, within one week.
Commitment to Staff Safety
Following a widely circulated video showing relatives of a patient attacking nurses in the emergency department, concerns over the safety of healthcare workers have been raised. Minister Akandoh personally met with the affected staff at the hospital to address their low morale and assure them of the government’s commitment to their protection.
A newly formed committee has been tasked with completing the investigation within seven days, with legal action to follow promptly. This swift response aims to address the immediate concerns and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Collaboration for Health Sector Improvement
In addition to addressing the assault, Minister Akandoh engaged in discussions with the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) to explore opportunities for broader health sector cooperation. The talks centered on infrastructure development, system upgrades, and capacity building within regulatory agencies like the Food and Drugs Authority.
Call for Enhanced Protection of Healthcare Workers
The recent assault has sparked a national conversation about the risks faced by frontline health workers in Ghana. Pressure is mounting on authorities to take concrete steps to ensure the safety and well-being of medical staff, highlighting the importance of creating a secure work environment for those dedicated to saving lives.
