Hearts of Oak defeat Asante Kotoko in GHALCA Top 4 tournament final

By Kenneth Odeng Adade

Accra, Aug. 24 – Accra Hearts of Oak emerged victorious in a thrilling final match of the 2025 Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Top 4 tournament, defeating rivals Asante Kotoko 2-0 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Match Summary

Frank Duku and Emmanuel Amankwah were the heroes for the Phobians as they each found the back of the net to secure the win over the Porcupine Warriors.

In a dominant first-half display, Hearts of Oak took the lead early on through Duku, capitalizing on Kotoko’s defensive lapses. The Porcupine Warriors struggled to create opportunities, with striker Kwame Poku isolated up front.

Asante Kotoko rallied in the second half, pushing for an equalizer, but it was Hearts of Oak who sealed the victory with Amankwah’s late goal.

Tournament Standings

Despite finishing level on points with Bibiani Gold Stars, Hearts of Oak were pipped to the title on the head-to-head rule. Bibiani Gold Stars claimed the trophy after defeating Hearts of Oak in a penalty shootout earlier in the competition.

Heart of Lions secured third place with four points, while Asante Kotoko endured a winless campaign, finishing bottom of the table.

It was a memorable tournament for Hearts of Oak, who showcased their quality and resilience on their way to the final victory.
