Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin recently unveiled a new dialysis centre at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in Mampong, in collaboration with the SHEILD NGO and other key stakeholders. The centre is set to revolutionize the management of end-stage renal failure in the Eastern Region and surrounding areas, where a significant number of people suffer from chronic kidney disease.
The project, which costs GH₵5.8 million, was spearheaded by SHEILD and is equipped with four advanced dialysis units and a state-of-the-art treatment facility. The facility includes essential equipment such as tubing, blood, dialysate and anticoagulant pumps, dialysers, monitors, and a water purification system. In addition, there is a new outhouse and waiting area sponsored by Enterprise Group PLC.

He praised the collaborative efforts of SHEILD, Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital officials, corporate sponsors, and individual donors for making the facility a reality.
Chairman of SHEILD, Mr. Godfried Nyante, acknowledged the support of key stakeholders, including the private sector, in making the project a success. Board Member Dr. Sylvia Anie received accolades for her dedication and vision in bringing the project to fruition, emphasizing the importance of promoting equity and access to healthcare for all individuals.
The Medical Superintendent of Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital, Dr. Kofi Ablorh, highlighted the impact of the new dialysis centre on patient care, stating that it will alleviate the burden of traveling long distances for treatment and improve the well-being of patients and their families.
Overall, the unveiling of the dialysis centre marks a significant milestone in improving healthcare access and quality for individuals suffering from chronic kidney disease in the Eastern Region and beyond.
