American Tennis Star Coco Gauff Knocked Out of Qatar Open by Marta Kostyuk

On Tuesday, American tennis sensation Coco Gauff faced an unexpected defeat at the Qatar Open, losing in straight sets to Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk with a score of 6-2, 7-5.

Despite being a former US Open champion, Gauff struggled to maintain her lead in the second set, ultimately succumbing to Kostyuk’s impressive performance. With this victory, Kostyuk advanced to the third round of the tournament, where she is set to face the winner of the match between Magda Linette and Magdalena Frech.

Reflecting on her win, Kostyuk stated, “Coco is an incredible fighter. We always have incredible matches. I tried to stick to what I had to do.”

Having played her first match since the Australian Open quarter-final defeat on January 21, Gauff struggled with seven double faults and 39 unforced errors during the match against Kostyuk.

Gauff faced a challenging start, falling behind 4-1 after losing her serve twice in the first set. Kostyuk managed to secure the set in just thirty minutes by breaking Gauff’s serve once again in the eighth game.

Showing resilience in the second set, Gauff managed to take a 4-2 lead with a crucial break. However, Kostyuk fought back strongly, taking advantage of Gauff’s errors and ultimately breaking her serve for the fifth time, sealing the victory.
