Flavored vapes at the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court recently heard oral arguments for a case involving the FDA’s decision to block flavored vaping products from the market. Two manufacturers sued the agency after it denied their marketing applications in 2021, claiming that the FDA changed its standards midway through the process. The court’s decision could impact how the agency regulates tobacco and other products.

A study published in JAMA Internal Medicine analyzed crisis pregnancy centers in the U.S., revealing that many centers offer services to discourage abortion without scientific evidence. The study found that almost all centers advertised medical services, with a significant portion promoting abortion pill reversal services.

Physicians spend significant time on patient documentation, leading to environmental implications due to the vast amount of data hospitals generate. In a First Opinion essay, two doctors urge the healthcare community to address the environmental damage caused by data storage and management.

A study published in The Lancet found that Black athletes are five times more likely than white athletes to experience sudden cardiac arrest and death. Most exercise-related sudden cardiac deaths occur in masters athletes aged 35 and older, highlighting racial disparities in these conditions.

Despite effective therapies for menopausal symptoms, hormone therapy usage has declined since the Women’s Health Initiative study in 2002. The study suggested risks of heart disease and breast cancer, leading to hesitancy among patients. Doctors discuss the latest research on hormone therapy and why patients may be reluctant to use it.
