A 23-year-old fisherman named Joseph Armah, also known as Asaa, has been sentenced to eight years in prison by the Gender-Based Violence Court at the Police Headquarters for sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl in Chorkor, Accra. Armah pleaded guilty to defilement and was convicted based on his admission.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, revealed that the victim’s uncle, a boxer living in Lantemanli-Chorkor, reported the incident. The convict, Armah, also resides in Chorkor. The assault took place on November 29, 2024, at around 3:00 PM when Armah approached the young girl while she was playing in the area. He gave her a GHC1 coin to buy biscuits, which she consumed.
Armah then took the girl to his room near the seashore, where he sexually assaulted her after removing her pants. He then left for Apam, while the victim returned home. Upon noticing changes in her daughter’s behavior, the victim’s mother questioned her, leading the child to disclose the assault. The incident was reported to the Mamprobi police, who issued a medical form for the victim.
Armah was arrested, and a caution statement was taken during the investigation. He was subsequently sentenced to eight years in prison for his crime by the court presided over by Dora Eshun.
The call for attention to children, especially in coastal areas, is essential to prevent such heinous acts from occurring. Parents must ensure the safety and protection of their children from individuals with malicious intent in their communities.
