The bustling city of Uyo in Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom State is gearing up for a game-changing event that promises to ignite the aspirations of women and youth entrepreneurs. The Akwa Ibom Youths and Women Entrepreneurs Summit (AYWES 2025), slated for July 15-16 at the Technology Incubation Centre Complex, is set to bring together more than 450 small and medium enterprises (SMEs), micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and grassroots innovators. With the theme “Export for Economic Growth and Recovery,” this summit aims to equip local businesses with the necessary tools to conquer global markets, aligning with Africa’s economic goals.

Unlocking Global Trade Opportunities

AYWES 2025 is strategically designed to empower participants with practical knowledge and connections to thrive in international trade, especially through initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). The summit’s focus areas are centered around building export-ready enterprises, with sessions covering topics such as securing export certifications, branding products effectively, and navigating trade logistics. Digital trade and marketing strategies will also take the spotlight, helping businesses expand their reach through online platforms and social media. Additionally, trade finance and payment systems will be simplified to ensure participants understand how to fund and sustain their global ventures.

Spotlighting Made-in-Akwa Ibom Excellence

One of the highlights of AYWES 2025 is the product selection exercise led by strategic partners from the United States. This initiative aims to identify Made-in-Akwa Ibom goods and services with strong export potential, showcasing the state’s craftsmanship and innovation. From agricultural products to creative designs, this exercise will highlight items ready to capture global attention, elevating local brands and positioning Akwa Ibom as a hub of exportable talent.

Driving Impact for People and Progress

The outcomes of the summit are deeply intertwined with creating lasting change for Akwa Ibom’s communities. By enhancing enterprise readiness, AYWES will help women and youth-led MSMEs scale their operations and access new markets. The trade linkages forged during the event will connect entrepreneurs with government agencies, financial institutions, and international partners, creating pathways to growth. Stories of resilience, like those of young innovators turning local ideas into global brands, will inspire a new generation of business leaders. AYWES 2025 directly supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 (No Poverty) and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by empowering vulnerable populations to build sustainable businesses, reducing poverty, and creating jobs.

A Call to Celebrate Africa’s Potential

Organized by the Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals Development Network (WEPDN), AYWES 2025 is more than just an event—it’s a movement. Founded by Mrs. Affi Israel Ibanga, WEPDN has been a driving force for entrepreneurial growth since 2022, and this summit builds on that legacy. With a dynamic lineup of presentations, panel discussions, and networking sessions, participants are sure to leave equipped, inspired, and connected. Africa.com is honored to support this vibrant initiative, celebrating Akwa Ibom’s entrepreneurs as they redefine what’s possible.
