Elon Musk has announced that he will be fully dedicated to his work at X, Tesla, and SpaceX following a recent X outage that affected users in the US and worldwide. In a tweet on Saturday, the billionaire stated that he will be spending “24/7” at work, even sleeping in conference rooms if necessary, in order to focus on X/xAI and Tesla, as well as the upcoming Starship launch.
The 53-year-old acknowledged that the X outage highlighted the need for major operational improvements, as the failover redundancy did not work as expected. The issues began on Thursday afternoon after a fire at a data center in Oregon.
In recent weeks, Musk has also made changes to his involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he serves as a special government employee. He plans to reduce his time with DOGE to one day a week, in order to prioritize his responsibilities at X, Tesla, and SpaceX.
Despite his reduced involvement, Musk expressed pride in the work that DOGE has accomplished so far, aiming to cut $2 trillion from the US budget. He emphasized the complexity of the federal government and the need for intense effort in the initial stages of his involvement.
Musk’s decision to limit his time at DOGE comes as Tesla faces challenges in the electric car market, with a recent decline in sales. He views the federal government as a “gigantic beast” that requires careful mapping and understanding to address waste and fraud effectively.
As Musk transitions back to primarily running his companies, he likens the experience of working with a new administration to a start-up, requiring intense effort initially to establish a rhythm and build the necessary team. By focusing on X, Tesla, and SpaceX, Musk aims to drive critical technologies forward and overcome challenges in the rapidly evolving industries he leads.
