It has been four months since Goma was taken over by AFC/M23 rebels, and some residents are beginning to show signs of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The trauma of living under rebel rule has taken a toll on the mental health of many in the community. In response to this growing issue, NGOs such as the Red Cross have set up counselling centres in the city, offering free and anonymous advice to support those in distress.

Journalists in Tunisia Face Repression as Country Drops 11 Places on World Press Freedom Index

Tunisia has fallen 11 places on Reporters Without Borders’ latest World Press Freedom Index, as repression of journalists in the country reaches new heights. Despite this pressure on press freedom, some journalists are refusing to back down and are actively resisting attempts to silence them. The fight for a free press in Tunisia continues, even in the face of adversity.

Benin Reclaims Missing Cultural Treasure from Finnish Museum

A three-legged stool has been returned to Benin, marking a significant moment in the country’s efforts to reclaim its looted cultural heritage. The stool is one of 27 items taken during colonial times and kept in a Finnish museum. Its return is a step towards rectifying the historical injustices of colonialism and preserving Benin’s rich cultural heritage for future generations.

With these ongoing developments in Goma, Tunisia, and Benin, it is clear that the fight for mental health support, press freedom, and cultural preservation is far from over. As these issues continue to unfold, it is crucial for communities and individuals to come together in solidarity and support one another in the pursuit of justice and equality.
