Dlala Thukzin’s Remarkable Nomination for Best New International Act at the BET Awards
Just like hip hop did in the mid-1970s, Amapiano and Gqom music have provided black youth with a platform to pursue their passions and build successful careers. One such talented individual is producer and DJ Dlala Thukzin.
The BET Awards recently unveiled their nominees for the upcoming ceremony, and among them is the acclaimed “iPlan” hit-maker, Dlala Thukzin, who has been nominated for the Best New International Act category.
Thukzin is one of three South Africans nominated in this category, alongside rapper Maglera Doe Boy and Amapiano duo TxC. The prestigious BET Awards are scheduled to take place on 9 June at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
The Rise of Dlala Thukzin
Thuthuka Zindlovu, widely known as Dlala Thukzin, hails from Lamontville in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Over the past decade, he has established himself as one of the most respected producers in the Amapiano and Gqom genres.
His talent and hard work were recently recognized when he won the Best Producer award at the Urban Music Awards (UMAs). Additionally, Thukzin was a multiple nominee at the Trace Awards in Zanzibar earlier this year, further solidifying his place in the industry.
His journey began in 2016 when he produced Babes Wodumo’s hit song, “Umngan’wami,” which catapulted him into the spotlight. Since then, he has collaborated with various artists and released his own music, showcasing his versatility and skill.
Thukzin’s dedication and respect for his craft have not gone unnoticed, with Babes Wodumo herself acknowledging his unwavering support and loyalty in a heartfelt post. Even in challenging times, such as the recent floods in Lamontville, Thukzin remains committed to giving back to his community and supporting those in need.
Excitement Surrounding the BET Awards
The BET Awards nominees are chosen by the BET Voting Academy, a group of esteemed professionals and influencers in the entertainment industry. This year, Kendrick Lamar leads the pack with ten nominations, including Album of the Year and Video of the Year.
Thukzin and Maglera Doe Boy are nominated in the Best New International Act category, representing South Africa on a global stage. The recognition of their talent and contribution to the music industry is a testament to the growing influence of African artists worldwide.
As the BET Awards draw near, music fans eagerly await the ceremony to see which artists will take home the prestigious awards and celebrate the diversity and talent present in the music industry.
