Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki recently made a visit to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to assess the progress of the Taifa Care program, which is part of Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) initiative. The program has seen 17 million Kenyans enrolled under the Social Health Authority (SHA), a significant milestone in providing healthcare access to the population.
Accompanied by key officials including Cabinet Secretary for Health Dr. Deborah Barasa, Principal Secretaries Mr. Harry Kimtai and Ms. Mary Muthoni, Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, and KNH Board Chair Dr. Samier Murravej and CEO Dr. Evanson Kamuri, the Deputy President engaged with both patients and healthcare workers to identify areas for improvement in service delivery. While acknowledging that many challenges have been addressed, Prof. Kindiki emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline any remaining issues to ensure efficient and timely healthcare services for all Kenyans.
The visit to KNH underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system and providing equitable access to quality healthcare through the Taifa Care program. By prioritizing the well-being of its citizens, the government is working towards ensuring that every Kenyan has access to the healthcare they need.
