Aliko Dangote Retains Title as Africa’s Richest Individual

For the 14th consecutive year, Aliko Dangote has maintained his position as Africa’s wealthiest individual, with a staggering net worth of $23.9 billion. This significant increase of 72% can be attributed to the successful launch of his massive refinery in Lagos. The latest Forbes’ 2025 African Billionaire Ranking reveals that the continent now boasts 22 billionaires with a combined wealth of $105 billion, a notable increase from last year’s 20 billionaires and $82.4 billion. South Africa leads the pack with seven billionaires, followed by Nigeria and Egypt with four billionaires each.

Aside from Dangote, other notable individuals such as Johann Rupert and Femi Otedola have also experienced substantial growth in their fortunes, with a 39% and 30% increase respectively. However, Abdulsamad Rabiu and Strive Masiyiwa witnessed a decline in their wealth. The list also welcomed the resurgence of Anas Sefrioui and Jannie Mouton, indicating a shift in Africa’s billionaire landscape.

It is evident that Africa’s economic landscape is evolving, with dynamic changes in the wealth distribution among its elite individuals. Dangote’s continued dominance at the top highlights the continent’s potential for growth and prosperity.
