A community safety liaison attacked and robbed in Gompers Park
A community safety liaison was brutally beaten and robbed by a group of individuals while patrolling Gompers Park on the Northwest Side, according to prosecutors who have filed charges against one of the suspects involved in the attack.
The victim, a 50-year-old man, was recording individuals in the park located at 4222 West Foster as part of his duties as a safety liaison on the afternoon of May 12.
Prosecutors allege that Adolfo Agreda, a 41-year-old man who had been drinking all day, took offense to being filmed by the victim.
Agreda reportedly confessed to being part of a group that physically assaulted the community safety advocate, using their fists and legs to strike the victim until he fell to the ground.
While the victim was on the ground, the group attempted to take his phone, and Agreda allegedly stole a silver-plated necklace from the victim’s neck.
When the police arrived, they found the victim bleeding heavily from his mouth, nose, and arms. He identified Agreda, who was sitting on a lawn chair near the basketball court, as one of the attackers.
The victim’s companion corroborated that Agreda was involved in the assault, although they were unable to witness Agreda taking the necklace as the victim was already on the ground.
Judge John Hock ordered Agreda to be detained on charges of robbery and misdemeanor battery.
