The Zambia Women’s National Team is gearing up for the 2025 Yongchuan International Tournament in China, with their camp starting to take shape. The team, also known as the Copper Queens, has begun preparations for the tournament scheduled for April 5-8.
The squad recently received a boost with the arrival of three key players. Hapoel Jerusalem winger Rachael Nachula, along with China-based players Kabange Mupopo and Fridah Mukoma, have joined the team in camp. With their arrival, the number of players in camp has now reached 17, marking the first batch of foreign-based players to link up with the squad.
Coach Nora Häuptle is expecting seven more foreign-based players to complete the 24-member squad. The Copper Queens are set to kick off their campaign on April 5 against Thailand, with a victory securing them a spot in the final on April 8. The final match will see them face either hosts China PR or Uzbekistan.
The 24-member squad comprises of a mix of players from various clubs and leagues. In the goalkeeping department, Mwila Chishala Mufunte from Green Buffaloes, Catherine Musonda from Red Arrows, and Eunice Sakala from Indeni Roses make up the trio. The defensive line features players like Margaret Belemu, Jackline Chomba, Blessing Maluba, Matildah Mukunda, Lushomo Mweemba, Martha Tembo, Esther Siamfuko, Judith Soko, and Pauline Zulu.
The midfield is bolstered by Grace Chanda, Prisca Chilufya, Rhoda Chileshe, Evarine Susan Katongo, Natasha Nanyangwe, Mercy Chipasula, Ireen Lungu, and the newly arrived Rachael Nachula. In the striking department, the team boasts the likes of Barbra Banda, Racheal Kundananji, Kabange Mupopo, and Fridah Mukoma.
