Cohere, a leading AI company, has just unveiled its latest offering – North. This new platform is set to revolutionize the enterprise AI market by directly competing with Microsoft Copilot and Google Vertex AI. Cohere claims that North surpasses the capabilities of these tech giants in key areas such as finance, HR, customer support, and IT functions.

North is a secure AI workspace platform that combines large language models, search capabilities, and automation tools. It allows companies to deploy AI while maintaining control over sensitive data. The platform can operate in private cloud environments or on-premises installations, making it ideal for regulated industries like finance and healthcare.

One of the standout features of North is its built-in search system, Compass, which can process various data types across languages. Internal testing has shown that Compass can significantly reduce task completion times, making workflows more efficient for users.

Aidan Gomez, CEO of Cohere, emphasized the importance of security in the enterprise AI space. He noted that while consumers have embraced AI technology in their daily lives, enterprises are still grappling with how to effectively leverage it. Cohere has already partnered with Royal Bank of Canada to develop a specialized version of North for Banking, marking a significant step in enterprise adoption of the platform.

The industry’s focus on computational scale has been challenged by Gomez, who believes that data quality and innovative methods like synthetic data have driven more progress than sheer scale. Cohere’s approach has made them more capital-efficient than their competitors, allowing them to offer a platform that empowers employees to build and customize AI tools without the need for technical expertise.

North is currently available through an early access program, targeting sectors such as finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and critical infrastructure. This launch has the potential to reshape how businesses implement AI technologies, with a growing emphasis on security and customization. As Gomez aptly puts it, “every company will be an AI company going forward,” highlighting the need for secure and easily deployable solutions in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
