Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso confident in team’s goal scoring capabilities
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso is not worried about the reliance on in-form striker Iqraam Rayners for goals. Rayners, who currently leads the Betway Premiership goal scoring charts with six goals, has been instrumental in the team’s recent performances under Cardoso.
Despite Rayners’ impressive goal-scoring form, Cardoso remains optimistic about other players stepping up to contribute to the team’s goal tally. Following a narrow 1-0 win over AmaZulu in a league match, Cardoso expressed his belief that more players will start finding the back of the net.
“I’m not really worried because I would worry if we were not creating the chances that we have been in the last games. We have created goal scoring situations and Iqraam is getting the goals but I believe that we’ll get more coming from different players,” Cardoso said.
Cardoso highlighted the team’s defensive resilience under his leadership, with Sundowns yet to concede a goal since his appointment. The coach emphasized the importance of emotional investment and defensive organization in the team’s recent performances.
“Most of all, we try to touch their emotions and make everyone understand that in each duel, each ball and each moment, we should give our lives. You should believe that this is the best time to make a difference and don’t let time pass by,” said Cardoso.
Looking ahead to their upcoming fixture against Richards Bay, Cardoso emphasized the need for continued defensive organization and efficiency in defensive transitions. The coach acknowledged the challenges posed by teams like Stellenbosch FC and AmaZulu and stressed the importance of quick reorganization when under pressure.
The Tshwane giants will aim to secure a positive result against Richards Bay to maintain their position at the top of the premiership table heading into the new year. With Cardoso at the helm, Sundowns will look to build on their recent successes and continue their strong run of form in the league.
