Suspect Detained and Firearm Recovered After Shooting Outside Wrigley Field
Chicago police have a suspect in custody and have recovered a firearm after a bystander was shot outside Wrigley Field on Thursday evening. Sources indicate that security cameras at Wrigley Field captured the incident.
Witnesses reported that two groups of individuals in their teens or early 20s were involved in a confrontation at the corner of Waveland and Sheffield around 6:56 p.m. The altercation escalated with two males exchanging gunfire.
One of the bullets fired from the north side of Waveland struck a 26-year-old man in the arm as he was standing outside Murphy’s Bleachers across the street. Police found multiple shell casings near a parking lot on the north side of Waveland Avenue.
Police presence was increased at CTA stations in the area, leading to the arrest of a suspect at the Wilson Red Line station around 7:18 p.m. Authorities discovered a gun and a backpack containing a sweatshirt matching the description provided by witnesses at the scene.
Five individuals accompanying the suspect were taken in for questioning.
The victim was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good to fair condition.

This incident marks the first shooting of the year in Lakeview and the first in Wrigleyville since a double shooting on May 5, 2024. Federal charges have been filed against an individual in connection with the previous case.
