The BFSI Security Summit 2025 is a highly anticipated event that is scheduled to take place on May 7, 2025, at the prestigious Radisson Blu Gautrain, Sandton, Johannesburg. This summit aims to bring together prominent cybersecurity experts, IT decision-makers, and industry pioneers to address the escalating cyber risks that are threatening Africa’s banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sector.

Cybersecurity remains a paramount concern for financial institutions across Africa. Recent incidents, such as the Bank of Uganda falling victim to the offshore hacking group "Waste" and losing approximately $16.8 million, as well as the ransomware attack on ZB Financial Holdings in Zimbabwe resulting in significant data leaks, highlight the urgent need for robust cybersecurity strategies within the BFSI sector. More recently, Standard Bank in South Africa confirmed a data breach involving limited personal and financial information, further emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity in the financial industry.

The BFSI Security Summit serves as the premier platform for Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), Chief Information Officers (CIOs), IT directors, and cybersecurity leaders to explore the latest strategies and technologies to secure Africa’s financial landscape. Key topics on the agenda include strengthening cybersecurity resilience in banking and insurance against ransomware and data breaches, mitigating risks in emerging technologies such as AI, blockchain, and cloud adoption, navigating Africa’s evolving regulatory landscape for data privacy and compliance, and implementing best practices in incident response and risk mitigation within the BFSI sector.

Abe Wakama, CEO of IT News Africa, emphasizes the importance of collaboration and sharing insights among industry leaders to implement strategies that safeguard financial organizations against evolving cyber threats. The summit also offers a unique opportunity for cybersecurity solution providers, fintech innovators, and IT security firms to showcase their expertise and connect with key decision-makers in the BFSI sector.
