Two Men Rob U.S. Postal Service Mail Carrier in Chicago
Chicago police reported that a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier was robbed while on her rounds near Washington Park on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred in the 5700 block of South Calumet when two men approached the carrier with a handgun at around 1:20 p.m. The suspects demanded her USPS master key, also known as an “arrow key,” before fleeing the scene in a gray Nissan sedan.
These “arrow keys” are essential for postal workers to access secured buildings and mailboxes efficiently. Unfortunately, these keys are often targeted by thieves looking to steal mail for identity theft and check cashing schemes.
The suspects, described as Black males standing 5’8″ or 5’9″ tall, were dressed in dark clothing and wore face masks. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the police at 312-747-8380 or visit CPDTIP.com, referencing incident #P25-1-022.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has announced substantial rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals involved in crimes against postal workers. Recently, the agency awarded tipsters who assisted in identifying and prosecuting a robbery offender.
