Anthropic, a prominent artificial intelligence company with backing from major tech investors, has announced a significant update to its Claude AI assistant. This update introduces a new “styles” feature that allows users to customize how the AI communicates, potentially revolutionizing how businesses incorporate AI into their workflows.

The “styles” feature, now available on Claude.ai, gives users the ability to preset how Claude responds to queries in formal, concise, or explanatory modes. Additionally, users can create custom response patterns by uploading sample content that aligns with their preferred communication style.

This development comes at a time when AI companies are competing to distinguish their offerings in a market dominated by industry giants like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. While most AI assistants maintain a single conversational style, Anthropic’s approach recognizes that different business contexts require different communication approaches.

According to an Anthropic spokesperson, many users are unaware that they can instruct AI to answer in a specific way. The introduction of the “styles” feature aims to break through this barrier and educate users on new ways to utilize AI effectively.

Early enterprise adoption of the feature has shown promising results. GitLab, an early customer, has integrated the feature into various business processes, allowing team members to use styles for tasks such as writing business cases, updating user documentation, and creating marketing materials.

One key aspect that sets Anthropic apart is its strong stance on data privacy. Unlike some competitors that use customer interactions to train their AI models, Anthropic does not train its generative AI models on user-submitted data by default, ensuring user data privacy.

While team-wide style sharing will not be available at launch, Anthropic is laying the groundwork for broader enterprise features in the future. The company aims to make Claude as efficient and user-friendly as possible across various industries, workflows, and individuals, hinting at potential expansions of the feature.

As enterprise AI adoption accelerates, companies are looking for ways to standardize AI interactions across their organizations. By enabling businesses to maintain consistent communication styles across AI interactions, Anthropic is positioning Claude as a sophisticated tool for enterprise deployment.

Anthropic’s focus on adaptability and user experience, rather than just performance metrics and model size, reflects a deeper understanding of what enterprises truly need from AI. The introduction of the styles feature addresses the growing concern among enterprise customers about maintaining brand voice and corporate communication standards while leveraging AI tools.

In the evolving landscape of AI, where practical implementation and user experience are becoming key battlegrounds, Anthropic’s styles feature stands out as a strategic pivot towards meeting the needs of enterprises. This emphasis on intelligence that speaks the language of businesses highlights the importance of not just what AI says, but how it says it, especially in the high-stakes world of enterprise AI.
