Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca disappointed in team’s 2-0 loss to Ipswich Town
Enzo Maresca, the coach of Chelsea, expressed his disappointment at the team’s 2-0 loss to Ipswich Town, describing the game as “strange.” In a post on the club’s website, Maresca acknowledged that the Blues had plenty of chances in both halves at Portman Road.
Maresca pointed out that Joao Felix’s goal was offside and Cole Palmer’s shot hit the post in the first half. However, Liam Delap’s penalty in the 12th minute and a goal from former Chelsea winger Omari Hutchinson in the second half secured the victory for Ipswich.
The Italian coach described the game as unusual, stating, “We generated a lot of chances in the first half and had clear opportunities in the second half as well. However, the second goal seemed to seal the game for Ipswich. Sometimes, despite creating numerous chances, things just don’t go your way.”
Following consecutive losses to Fulham and Ipswich, Chelsea has now experienced back-to-back defeats for the first time under Maresca’s leadership. The team also drew with Everton on December 22, earning only one point out of a possible nine.
Despite the recent setbacks, Chelsea remains in fourth place in the league, trailing behind Arsenal and Nottingham Forest. The team had a strong start under Maresca’s management, but recent results have been less favorable.
When asked about the team’s physical condition, Maresca responded, “No, tonight’s game wasn’t about physical or conditioning issues. We created plenty of chances in both halves, hitting the post and facing tough defending. Sometimes, it’s just not your day.”
He concluded, “We had opportunities, but the second goal from Ipswich made it difficult for us. It’s part of football to face such challenges. We will regroup and bounce back stronger in the next fixture.”
