Ghanaian YouTuber and law graduate, Elorm Ababio, also known as Ama Governor, has shared her thoughts on the recent removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Essaba Sackey Torkornoo from office. President John Dramani Mahama, following the recommendations of a committee established under Article 146(6) of the Constitution, officially removed Justice Torkornoo from her position on Monday, 1 September 2025.
The committee found grounds of misbehavior under Article 146(1) to be proven and recommended her removal from office, leading to President Mahama’s decision. Prior to her removal, Justice Torkornoo had been suspended in April 2025 after three petitions calling for her removal were submitted.
Ama Governor took to social media to express her views on the matter. She humorously declared victory in a tweet, stating, “Ama Governor 1 – 0 Gertrude Torkornoo GAME OVERRRDDDD.” She also offered some legal advice to the anonymous petitioners who initiated the process, suggesting that the former Chief Justice could potentially face consequences for the same grounds on which she was removed.
In a defiant tone, Ama Governor warned her critics, stating, “Try me at the risk of losing your one advantage. At the risk of national embarrassment. YOU WILL FAIL MASSIVELY.” This statement comes after Justice Torkornoo defended the GLC’s decision to block Ama Governor’s call to the Bar in 2024, citing the importance of character and conduct in the legal profession.
Ama Governor was originally scheduled to be called to the Ghana Bar in 2022 but faced a suspension after allegations of lacking good character. Despite passing her professional law examinations, the findings of the committee investigating the matter remain unpublished to this day.
The controversy surrounding Justice Torkornoo’s removal and Ama Governor’s legal battle continues to unfold, with both parties standing firm in their positions. It remains to be seen how this situation will develop in the coming days.
