Ahimbisibwe on target as URA FC see off Lugazi, Maroons defeat Police FC

URA continued their impressive form in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Lugazi at Nakivubo Stadium. Ivan Ahimbisibwe was the hero for the Tax Collectors as his goal secured the three points for his team. This result sees URA move up to fourth place in the standings, just six points behind leaders NEC.

The decisive moment in the match came in the 23rd minute when Joseph Ssemujju made a surging run through the Lugazi defense before setting up Ahimbisibwe, who calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to give URA the lead. Despite some late pressure from Lugazi, URA held on to secure the win and continue their climb up the table.

The defeat ended Lugazi’s eight-game unbeaten run but they remain in 12th place with 13 points, just four points above the relegation zone. Meanwhile, in another match, Maroons produced a stunning comeback to defeat Police 2-1 at Kavumba.

It was Police who took the lead early on through Isaac Ogwang, but Maroons responded strongly with Ivan Asaba scoring twice to secure the victory. Asaba’s first goal came from the penalty spot after he was brought down in the box, and he completed his brace with a well-taken finish in the second half.

The win sees Maroons move up to sixth place in the league standings with 19 points, while Police drop to seventh with 17 points. The result of these matches has added more excitement to the league table, with the race for the title heating up as the season progresses.

Overall, it was a thrilling day of football in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, with URA and Maroons emerging as the standout performers. The teams will now look to build on these victories and continue their push for success in the remainder of the season.
