Chairperson of AU Commission Meets with Qatari Minister to Strengthen Cooperation
H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the AU Commission, recently met with H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, Minister of State of the State of Qatar. During the meeting, the Minister delivered a message of congratulations from H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and the Prime Minister of Qatar, expressing Qatar’s commitment to enhancing strategic cooperation with the AU.
The discussions emphasized the AU’s crucial role in advancing peace and stability in the Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa. The Chairperson appreciated Qatar’s contributions to global diplomacy and mediation, recognizing common priorities in development, preventive diplomacy, humanitarian response, and countering violent extremism.
Both the Chairperson and the Minister affirmed their mutual intention to formalize this partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), demonstrating a shared vision for enhanced collaboration in support of Africa’s peace, security, and development agenda.
