Ghana’s film industry reached new heights with the success of its first science fiction film, “The B.A.T.U. Project: ADAM THE FIRST”, at the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival (MiSciFi). The film took home three prestigious awards, including “Best Zero Budget Feature Film”, recognizing its exceptional quality despite limited resources, “Best Afrofuturism Film”, applauding its innovative portrayal of African culture and futuristic themes, and the coveted MiSciFi BEACON award, equivalent to the Palme d’Or at Cannes, which honors the country where the film was made – Ghana. This achievement not only showcases the talent of local filmmakers but also solidifies Ghana’s presence in the realm of science fiction cinema.

Writer and director, Majeed Sayibu, lead actor and producer, Agbeko “Bex” Mortty, and actress, Etornam Adgbo, proudly represented Ghana at the awards ceremony in Miami, Florida. Sayibu expressed his gratitude for the recognition, attributing the success to the hard work and creativity of the team. He emphasized the pride of representing Ghana on an international platform and sharing their unique storytelling with a global audience.

The film’s accolades were celebrated by industry insiders as well, with Ivan Quashigah, Founder and CEO of Farmhouse Productions, commending the achievement as a significant milestone for the Ghanaian film industry. The recognition at MiSciFi 2025 not only validates the promise of the film but also highlights the potential of Ghanaian cinema on a global scale.

“The B.A.T.U. Project: ADAM THE FIRST” is a captivating sci-fi adventure that explores themes of collective responsibility, interplanetary interaction, and self-growth. According to artist and architect, Asare Adjei, the film offers a glimpse into the possible technological future of Africa while addressing profound questions about humanity’s place in the universe.

Directed by Majeed Sayibu, the film follows the journey of Adam, a representative of the United African Federation tasked with repopulating a new planet after an earth-shattering event. However, Adam faces a formidable entity that threatens the planet’s existence, leading to a gripping battle for survival and the future of humanity.

Q-Vision Ltd, a leading film production company in Ghana, spearheaded the creation of “The B.A.T.U. Project: ADAM THE FIRST”, demonstrating their commitment to producing compelling and innovative films that resonate with audiences worldwide.

As the first Ghanaian science fiction film to make waves internationally, “The B.A.T.U. Project: ADAM THE FIRST” serves as a testament to the burgeoning talent and creativity within the Ghanaian film industry. This groundbreaking success paves the way for future ventures into the realm of sci-fi cinema, solidifying Ghana’s position as a rising star in the global film landscape.
