The upcoming Gauteng derby between the Lions and Bulls at Ellis Park this Saturday is set to be an exciting clash for both teams. After their victories in the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup games against European opposition last weekend, both teams are riding high on confidence as they prepare to resume the United Rugby Championship following a two-week break.

The match will feature a number of high-profile players, including Springboks, with the possibility of a showdown between brothers Richard and David Kriel, representing the Lions and Bulls respectively. Local derbies are always intense affairs, with no quarter given and plenty of bragging rights at stake.

One of the key questions leading up to the game is whether the fans will turn out in force to support their teams. The 2.45pm kick-off at Ellis Park is convenient for supporters, eliminating concerns about safety in Doornfontein after dark. Both Lions and Bulls fans are expected to make the trip to the stadium, with Bulls supporters only an hour away from the venue.

The success of the ongoing SA20 cricket competition in attracting fans to the grounds raises the question of what has changed to draw in the crowds. Is it the presence of international players, effective marketing, the excitement of the game, or simply the social aspect of attending a live event? The allure of winning prizes, such as catching a one-handed clean catch in the stands, could also be a factor.

It will be intriguing to see how many fans will fill the stands at Ellis Park on Saturday, as supporters from both teams come together to witness the thrilling Gauteng derby unfold. The atmosphere at the stadium is sure to be electric, with fans eagerly anticipating an action-packed and fiercely contested match between the Lions and Bulls.
