During a recent crime operation in Tshwane, a total of 314 suspects were apprehended, with 118 suspects being arrested on Friday alone. The operations, including Operation Shanela in Soshanguve and Rietgat policing areas, were part of a strategic effort by the Tshwane police to crack down on criminal activities in the region.

Tshwane district police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk reported that out of the 240 suspects arrested for serious offences, 57 were related to gender-based violence, 30 for common assault, two for murder, five for attempted murder, seven for armed robbery, and four for rape. Additionally, 25 undocumented persons were detained for deportation proceedings, and one individual was arrested for employing illegal immigrants.

Police also conducted searches on individuals and vehicles, resulting in the arrest of 28 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol. A total of 69 Aarto traffic infringement notices were issued, amounting to R28,250 in fines. Twenty-five identified premises and hotspots were searched, leading to the arrest of six individuals for public drinking.

During the operations, six suspects were apprehended for dealing and possession of drugs. A significant amount of various drugs, including Crystal Meth, Nyaope, Cat, and Dagga, along with cash, were seized from the suspects. In addition, 22 liquor establishments were inspected, with six being closed for non-compliance with the Liquor Act. A total of 670,000 millilitres of liquor were confiscated for destruction pending legal proceedings.

One individual was arrested for the possession of a hijacked vehicle and an unlicensed firearm, which was reported stolen earlier in the month. The operations also led to the apprehension of 42 undocumented individuals and the arrest of one individual for employing undocumented persons.

On Friday, a total of 118 suspects were apprehended in various areas of Tshwane, including Rietgat, Soshanguve, Olievenhoutbosch, Wierdabrug, and Lyttleton. The operations resulted in the arrest of four suspects for possession and dealing in drugs, with a significant amount of drugs and cash confiscated.

During the Friday blitz, a total of 2,137 individuals and 1,112 vehicles were searched, with 95 vehicles tested for verification of theft. Two suspects were arrested for possession of a car-jamming device, one for fraud related to card scamming activities, and nine for driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition, 56 individuals were arrested for public drinking, and two for public indecency.

Other successes included the arrest of four wanted suspects in Olievenhoutbosch for armed robbery and housebreaking. A firearm with three rounds of ammunition was recovered during the operation, with preliminary investigations linking the suspects to additional cases.

The recovered firearm will undergo forensic analysis to determine its involvement in other crimes. Further investigations are ongoing to establish any links to other criminal activities by the arrested suspects.

The Tshwane police have shown a strong commitment to tackling crime in the region through these strategic operations, resulting in the apprehension of numerous suspects and the seizure of illegal substances and firearms. The community can rest assured that law enforcement is actively working to ensure their safety and security.
