The upcoming inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump on January 20 is facing a major change in plans due to the forecasted ‘dangerous’ cold weather in Washington. Instead of the customary outdoor ceremony, the inaugural address, parade, and balls will all be held indoors at various locations in the city.

This decision to move the inauguration indoors is not unprecedented, as former president Ronald Reagan also held his inauguration indoors in 1985 due to extreme cold weather. Trump, through his social media platform Truth Social, has expressed his concerns for the safety of attendees, urging everyone to dress warmly to avoid any complications.

The weather forecast for inauguration day predicts temperatures as low as -11C (12F) and a high of -5C (23F), making it potentially the coldest inauguration day in American history. Organisers have distributed 220,000 tickets to watch the event on the Capitol’s grounds, with plans in place for those without tickets to view the ceremonies on the National Mall.

With tens of thousands of law enforcement, first responders, supporters, and visitors expected to attend, alternate plans are being made to accommodate everyone amidst the challenging weather conditions. Trump’s inauguration may be held indoors, but it promises to be a historic event nonetheless.
