The Tan Hill Inn, Britain’s highest pub located in North Yorkshire, recently made headlines as 23 guests and six staff members were snowed in for five days. The group, including Freddie Swift and his partner, found themselves stuck at the pub, which sits 1,732 ft above sea level, due to the extreme weather conditions.

Despite being stranded, the guests made the most of their time together, swapping phone numbers and vowing to stay in touch even after they were rescued. The staff members, who had been at the pub since New Year’s Eve, remained trapped alongside the guests until a local farmer arrived with a snowplow to help them escape the snow-covered inn.

Freddie Swift shared his experience of the escape, noting that they were given little notice and had to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. It took them an hour to travel the seven-mile journey from the pub to the A66 road, as the roads were icy and treacherous. Once they were finally on the road, they followed the tractor slowly and carefully to ensure their safety.

The guests were relieved to finally be freed from the pub and were grateful to the staff for their hard work and dedication during the challenging time. Owner Andrew Hields praised his staff for their efforts in making sure the visitors felt comfortable and taken care of during their unexpected stay.

Overall, the snowed-in experience at the Tan Hill Inn was a unique adventure for all involved, and while they were glad to be rescued, they will always remember the time spent together at Britain’s highest pub.
