Cristiano Ronaldo Claims Saudi League is More Competitive Than France’s Ligue 1

Cristiano Ronaldo, the world-renowned Portuguese footballer currently playing for Al-Nassr, made a bold statement at the 2024 Globe Soccer Dubai Awards. He confidently asserted that the level of competition in the Saudi football league surpasses that of France’s Ligue 1.

Ronaldo, who has played for top clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United, did not mince his words when comparing the two leagues. He emphasized the challenging conditions in Saudi Arabia, with temperatures soaring to 38, 39, or even 40 degrees Celsius, making it a physically demanding environment for players.

Speaking about Ligue 1, Ronaldo criticized the dominance of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the French league. He mentioned that PSG’s superiority, backed by better players and financial resources, makes it difficult for other teams to compete effectively. Ronaldo bluntly stated, “In France, it’s PSG. The rest are finished.”

Ronaldo’s opinion on the Saudi league’s competitiveness is not new. Earlier in the year, he had expressed similar views, highlighting the improvement and growth of football in Saudi Arabia. He commended the league for its progress in terms of investment and infrastructure, indicating a positive trajectory for the sport in the country.

Recognized for his outstanding performance, Ronaldo was named the Best Middle East Player of the Year and received the Top Goal Scorer of All Time award at the Globe Soccer Dubai Awards. The event also honored other football stars like Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, and Lamine Yamal for their exceptional contributions to the sport.
