Ukraine Launches Drone Attacks on Residential Buildings in Russian City of Kazan

In a bold move, Ukraine brought the war directly into the heart of Russia on Saturday morning with drone attacks that targeted residential buildings in the city of Kazan, located in the Tatarstan region, over 600 miles away from the front line.

According to the press service of Tatarstan’s governor, Rustam Minnikhanov, a total of eight drones were involved in the attack. Out of these, six drones hit residential buildings, one targeted an industrial facility, and one was successfully shot down over a river.

A video shared on a local Telegram news channel, Astra, and verified by The Associated Press, captured a drone flying into the upper floors of a high-rise building in Kazan. Fortunately, local authorities reported no casualties resulting from the attack.

As a precautionary measure, all flights at Kazan’s airport were temporarily suspended, and mass gatherings were canceled for Saturday and Sunday following the drone attacks.

These attacks by Ukraine come on the heels of a similar incident on Friday, where a Ukrainian strike on a town in Russia’s Kursk border region resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including a child, using US-supplied missiles.

In response to the attacks, Moscow reportedly sent 113 drones into Ukraine overnight into Saturday. Ukrainian officials confirmed that 57 drones were successfully shot down during the retaliatory strikes. Additionally, 56 drones were reported as “lost,” likely due to electronic jamming efforts.
