The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has stated that his party is prepared to enter the government once the African National Congress (ANC) removes the Democratic Alliance (DA) from the government of national unity (GNU). This announcement was made during the closing address at the EFF’s third elective conference, where Malema was re-elected unopposed as party leader.

Malema emphasized that the national coalition government with the ANC, DA, and other parties would not last long. He predicted that if President Cyril Ramaphosa did not implement the two contentious clauses of the Basic Education Amendment (Bela) Act, he would face removal by ANC members. Malema further speculated that after the ANC’s elective conference in 2027, a new president opposed to the unity government would replace Ramaphosa.

The EFF leader’s remarks seemed to allude to deputy president Paul Mashatile, who has been involved in the coalition government but was recently seen singing an anti-GNU song at the South African Communist Party congress. Malema expressed confidence that the EFF would enter the government once the ANC started clashing with the DA’s Helen Zille.

Malema clarified that the EFF’s decision to participate in the government was not to save the ANC but to work for the people and secure votes for the party in the next elections. He criticized the ANC for aligning with right-wing, racist, and white supremacist parties instead of progressive black parties. Malema also stated that the EFF’s involvement in the coalition government was not contingent on the inclusion of Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe party.

During his address, Malema praised the newly-elected leaders of the EFF for their discipline and democratic conduct during the conference. He urged the party members to resist division and factionalism, emphasizing the importance of consultation and unity within the leadership. Malema highlighted the need for all leaders to be well-rounded and capable of organizing and mobilizing without external assistance.

In conclusion, Malema called on the EFF leaders to grow rapidly and avoid the pitfalls of factional politics that had plagued the ANC. He stressed the importance of respecting each other’s views and collaborating effectively within the party. Malema also reiterated that true leaders of the EFF must be present and actively involved in the party’s activities. The world is constantly changing, and with it, so are the ways in which we interact with each other and the environment around us. One of the most significant changes in recent years has been the rise of social media and its impact on our lives.

Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok have become integral parts of our daily routines, allowing us to connect with friends and family, share our thoughts and experiences, and stay up-to-date on current events. But as social media has grown in popularity, so too have concerns about its effects on mental health, relationships, and even democracy.

One of the biggest concerns surrounding social media is its impact on mental health. Studies have shown that spending too much time on social media can lead to feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and depression. The constant comparison to others, the pressure to present a perfect image of oneself, and the fear of missing out on social events can all contribute to these negative feelings.

Another issue with social media is its impact on relationships. While it has never been easier to stay connected with friends and family, social media can also lead to misunderstandings, jealousy, and even breakups. The ability to see what others are doing at all times can create feelings of inadequacy or resentment, leading to conflicts in real-life relationships.

Social media has also been criticized for its role in spreading misinformation and fake news. The algorithms used by these platforms are designed to keep users engaged by showing them content that aligns with their interests and beliefs. This can create echo chambers where users are only exposed to one point of view, making it harder to distinguish between fact and fiction.

Despite these concerns, social media also has its benefits. It can be a powerful tool for social movements, allowing activists to reach a wider audience and mobilize support for their causes. Social media has also been used to raise awareness about important issues, such as mental health, climate change, and social justice.

In conclusion, social media has had a profound impact on our lives, for better or for worse. While it has the potential to bring people together and amplify voices that might otherwise go unheard, it also has the power to isolate us, damage our mental health, and spread harmful misinformation. As we continue to navigate this digital landscape, it is important to be mindful of how we use social media and its effects on our well-being and society as a whole.
