Oscar-winning Actor Jamie Foxx Opens Up About Health Crisis
Renowned actor Jamie Foxx recently revealed shocking details about a medical emergency he faced last year, disclosing that he suffered a stroke following a brain haemorrhage.
In a recent Netflix special titled “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was,” the Hollywood icon delved into the health scare he experienced in the previous year.
Describing the ordeal as a mystery, Foxx expressed, “The specifics of what happened to me are still unknown.”
Recalling the harrowing incident, he shared, “On April 11, I asked my friend for an aspirin as I was battling a severe headache. It quickly became apparent that my friend was at a loss in a medical emergency situation.”
“I blacked out before I could even take the aspirin,” he revealed. “I have no recollection of the next twenty days.”
Expressing gratitude towards his sister for her unwavering support, Foxx recounted how she drove him around Atlanta in search of a hospital, describing her as “4 feet 11 of pure love.”
The actor went on to narrate how upon reaching Piedmont Hospital, doctors warned that he might not survive a surgical procedure due to a brain haemorrhage that had led to a stroke.
After undergoing the operation, medical professionals informed him that although full recovery was possible, the journey ahead would be incredibly challenging, labeling it as “the worst year of his life.”
According to Foxx, his family shielded him from the public eye during his recovery as he was too unsteady to be seen, with his daughter fearing that people would turn his condition into online mockery.
Recounting waking up on May 4 unable to walk and confined to a wheelchair, Foxx expressed disbelief when informed by a friend that he had suffered a stroke, stating, “Jamie Foxx doesn’t get strokes.”
He revealed that upon seeking treatment in Chicago, he was advised to shed his “arrogance” if he wished to make a full recovery.
During the filming of a Netflix project in Atlanta in April 2023, the actor encountered an undisclosed health issue that landed him in the hospital.
Despite his preference for privacy, those close to him chose to remain tight-lipped about his condition, with his daughter Corinne Foxx simply mentioning a “medical complication” on social media during his hospitalization.
Addressing the speculations surrounding his health scare, Foxx released an Instagram video update in July 2023, explaining, “I didn’t want you to see me like that, even though I know many were eager for updates. I want you to see me joyful, having fun, cracking jokes, acting in movies, or performing on TV. The last thing I wanted was for you to witness me struggling to survive with tubes attached to me.”
Providing another update in August 2023 on his verified social media accounts, Foxx expressed, “Grateful… finally starting to feel like myself. I see the light, despite the unexpectedly dark journey.”
In a TikTok video shared over the summer, the “Ray” actor recounted how his health crisis began with a severe headache that persisted for 20 days, leaving him with no recollection of events.
