Orlando Pirates DStv Diski Challenge coach Joseph Makhanya hopes for Mofokeng’s European move

Orlando Pirates DStv Diski Challenge coach Joseph Makhanya recently shared his thoughts on the potential transfer of Relebohile Mofokeng to Europe, expressing his support for the young striker’s aspirations.

Rumors have been circulating linking the 20-year-old Pirates player with European giants Barcelona and Rangers from Scotland, sparking excitement among fans and pundits alike.

Having previously coached Mofokeng in the DDC before his promotion, Makhanya spoke about his desire to see the talented Bafana Bafana striker achieve his dream of playing in Europe. However, he emphasized that the final decision ultimately lies with Orlando Pirates.

“It’s hard to determine if a player is ready for a move to Europe until it actually happens. The team will need to assess and make the right decision for the player’s future development,” Makhanya stated in an interview with FARPost.

“As coaches, we want to see our players succeed and fulfill their ambitions of playing abroad. It would be a proud moment for me to see a player I’ve coached represent a prestigious club like Barcelona or Rangers in Scotland, as the speculations suggest.”

Highlighting the importance of players venturing abroad, Makhanya believes that having more South African talent play in top European leagues will benefit the national team in the long run.

“Players like Benni McCarthy have set the standard by excelling on the international stage. We hope to see our players follow suit and compete against the best in the world. If an opportunity arises for an early move overseas, we should seize it to enhance our competitiveness at the highest level,” Makhanya added.

With the potential transfer of Mofokeng capturing the attention of football enthusiasts, the prospect of seeing more South African players shine on the global stage remains a tantalizing possibility for the future.
