Federal Agents Arrest Record Number of Terror Watchlist Individuals at Northern U.S. Border
Federal agents have made a significant breakthrough in arresting individuals on the terrorist watchlist at the northern U.S. border, with a recent case involving a Jordanian national connected to terrorism who was apprehended near the Canadian border and subsequently removed from the country.
The individual in question, Mohammad Hasan Abdellatif Albana, 41, was caught by Border Patrol agents in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Blaine Sector near Lynden, Washington, just a few miles from the Canadian border.
Albana illegally entered the U.S. without proper admission, inspection, or parole by a U.S. immigration official, leading to his identification as a match on the terrorist watchlist. He was swiftly processed for removal and deported to Jordan on November 15 due to the national security risk he posed.
This incident is part of a larger trend, as data from CBP shows that 44 known or suspected terrorists have been arrested at the northern border this fiscal year, compared to 8 at the southwest border during the same period.
Overall, a record 1,903 individuals on the terrorist watchlist have been apprehended under the Biden administration, with the majority (64%) being captured at the northern border with Canada.
Despite claims of a secure border, the northern border lacks the same level of infrastructure and manpower as the southern border, making it vulnerable to security threats like terrorism. Border officials emphasize the need for increased vigilance and resources to address these challenges effectively.
Efforts are underway to strengthen security measures at both the northern and southern borders to ensure the safety and protection of the country against potential threats.
