Dreams FC Denies Allegations Made by Najeeb Yakubu

Dreams FC has refuted claims made by Niger international Najeeb Yakubu, alleging that the club attempted to sign him during his youth career. Yakubu, a former member of Ghana’s U-17 team, made headlines after accusing GFA President Kurt Okraku of excluding him from Ghana’s U23 squad for personal reasons.

Yakubu, who was part of the Black Starlets team that reached the finals of the U-17 AFCON but narrowly missed out on the title, expressed feelings of neglect from Ghana, ultimately leading to a difficult decision that has raised questions about his loyalty.

“I believe Kurt [Okraku] removed my name from the U23 squad that travelled to Japan for the friendlies. He seems to have a personal problem with me. When I was in the U17 team, he [Okraku] wanted me to join Dreams FC, but I couldn’t. I think he held that against me.”

Dreams FC Responds

A spokesperson for Dreams FC has categorically denied Yakubu’s allegations, stating that there was never any attempt to recruit him to the club. The only interaction with Yakubu was centered around recommending him for the Black Stars team due to a positional gap.

Yakubu’s involvement in Niger’s victory over Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers has brought attention to his strained relationship with Ghanaian football authorities.

Implications and Reactions

Yakubu’s accusations have sparked discussions about potential biases within Ghana’s football administration. However, Dreams FC has distanced itself from the controversy, emphasizing its dedication to league competition and player development.
