Girl Escapes Potential Kidnapping in Boulder

A terrifying incident unfolded in Boulder on Monday morning when an 11-year-old girl narrowly escaped a potential kidnapping. According to a message from the Boulder Police Department posted on X.com, the young girl was walking to school on 26th Street between Meadow and Norwood avenues around 8:30 a.m. when an unknown man began following her on her bicycle.

The situation took a dangerous turn when the man grabbed the girl’s shoulder, attempting to take her. Thinking quickly, the brave girl grabbed a nearby tree branch and struck the would-be kidnapper, causing him to release his grip. This allowed her to run to safety at her school.

Upon reaching school, the shaken child confided in her mother about the frightening encounter. The mother wasted no time in contacting the authorities, reporting the incident to the police on Wednesday.

According to the victim’s description, the suspect is a man dressed in all black, wearing a mask and circular sunglasses with colored lenses. He may have been speaking Spanish at the time of the incident.

This alarming incident marks the second attempted kidnapping on the Front Range in recent days. Just last week, a man tried to abduct a girl at gunpoint outside Mountain Range High School on October 25.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with either case. The Boulder Police Department is urging anyone with information about the attempted kidnapping to come forward. Detective Taylor Hickam can be reached at HickamT@bouldercolorado.gov or 303-441-1936, referencing case number 24-11453.
