Food and beverage company Twellium Ghana Limited has shown support for Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club and Accra Great Olympics Football Club by providing packs of Verna Water and energy drinks.
The two renowned clubs are set to face off on September 5 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Legon, in a highly anticipated match for the Democracy Cup.
The Democracy Cup, an annual football competition introduced last year by the Speaker of Parliament on behalf of Parliament, aims to foster unity among Ghanaians while promoting support for the Constitution and democratic principles.
During the presentation ceremony at the Accra Hearts of Oak training grounds in Pobiman, Coach Massoud Didi Dramani expressed his appreciation to the Speaker and Parliament for initiating the competition.
He mentioned that Hearts would use the upcoming match as valuable preparation for the upcoming league season and affirmed his team’s determination to emerge victorious.
Similarly, at the La Town Park where Accra Great Olympics train, Coach Sully Adamu conveyed optimism about his first-division side surprising Hearts of Oak. He also extended gratitude to Verna Water for their generous donation.
Priscilla Awumey, an official from Twellium Industries’ Corporate Marketing and Business Development Department, reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting both clubs for a successful competition that honors democracy.
The Democracy Cup, launched in 2024, is part of a broader initiative to utilize football as a tool for civic education and national unity. Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, has been a driving force behind the idea of leveraging the sport’s popularity to deepen understanding of Ghana’s democratic system.
The change in match venue from the Accra Sports Stadium to the University of Ghana Stadium was made to “ensure optimal facilities, security, and a premier experience for spectators, players, and supporters nationwide.”
