Abenatay Ministries and the Mental Health Authority joined forces to host an inspiring event titled “Surviving the Mood”. The night focused on raising awareness about bipolar disorder and other mood-related conditions, emphasizing faith, hope, and healing.
The event took place at the Tang Palace Hotel in Accra on July 20, 2025. Attendees were treated to mental health talks, survivor testimonies, musical performances, an award ceremony, a commemorative dinner, and fundraising activities to support mental health advocacy.
During the event, mental health professionals shed light on the symptoms, challenges, and the significance of early diagnosis and treatment, while survivors bravely shared their personal experiences.
One survivor, Esenam Abrah Drah, shared her journey of battling bipolar disorder for a decade. She highlighted the importance of receiving a proper diagnosis and consistent treatment with medications like mood stabilizers to lead a stable life.
The evening aimed to break the stigma surrounding mental health, encourage education, and promote seeking support when needed. Artists like ‘Nsuromaa’ provided a musical interlude, and individuals and organizations were recognized for their contributions to mental health awareness in the country.
A fundraising segment was also part of the event, with proceeds directed towards community outreach and mental health support initiatives under the AbenaTay Foundation.
Rev Tay, the hostess of the evening, praised the collaborative efforts of all partners and called on the government to continue prioritizing mental well-being.
She stated, “Mental health is a communal responsibility, and healing is attainable when we come together.” The event showcased the power of unity in addressing mental health challenges.
