Police in Ghana make breakthrough in gold shop robbery investigation
Authorities in Ghana have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation into last week’s armed robbery at a gold shop in Mpohor.
During routine patrols near the Aputuoagya to Bekwai road, officers from the Kuntanase District intercepted a suspicious vehicle. The subsequent discovery of a cache of weapons and evidence inside the abandoned vehicle has provided crucial leads in the case.
Among the items recovered were an AK-47 assault rifle, a locally manufactured firearm, loaded magazines, ammunition, and distinctive clothing items. These items bear strong similarities to those worn by the suspects captured in CCTV footage from the robbery.
The recovered evidence also included cowrie shells, a smartphone, and various identity documents, which are expected to aid investigators in identifying and apprehending additional suspects.
The Police Administration has commended the patrol team for their vigilance and swift action in recovering the weapons and evidence. Security operations have been heightened nationwide as authorities continue to pursue leads in the case.
For the residents and business owners of Mpohor, the discovery brings hope that those responsible for the brazen robbery will be brought to justice, providing a sense of reassurance and safety in the community.
