Tragedy Strikes as Young Mobile Money Vendor Fatally Shot by Armed Robbers
A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday evening in Quarters Junction, a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro, as 21-year-old mobile money vendor Desmond Adzah was fatally shot by suspected armed robbers.
Desmond, a familiar and trusted face in the community, was ambushed by unidentified gunmen around 7:00 p.m. while returning home from his shop. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Eyewitness Account
Ruben Kumor, an eyewitness who spoke to Citi News, shared his account of the harrowing incident. “Desmond is known to all of us at the junction. Almost everyone relies on him for his services. Just after he had closed for the day, I met him and asked to withdraw GHC150, but he told me he was short on cash,” Kumor recalled.
He recounted hearing gunshots shortly after parting ways with Desmond and expressed frustration over the growing insecurity in the area. “There’s a police station nearby, but we hardly see patrols at night. Even if they could assign community police to patrol, it would help. Desmond was attacked just after closing his shop. This shouldn’t happen,” Kumor lamented.
Suspected Targeted Attack
Desmond’s sister, Erica Adzah, believes that her brother may have been targeted by individuals he knew. “This shooting incident is not random. From what we’re hearing, he was followed and possibly targeted by people he knew. Some even believe the suspects were his friends. After shooting him, they took his bag. But because he had seen their faces, they killed him,” she revealed.
She further disclosed that Desmond attempted to seek refuge at their family house, but continuous gunfire prevented relatives from venturing outside. “This demands a thorough investigation. Motorcycle crimes are becoming too common. It’s imperative that the government takes this matter seriously and implements measures to protect innocent individuals,” Erica emphasized.
