In South Africa, the world of payments is a complex web of traditional banks, innovative fintech companies, telecommunications giants, and card schemes all vying for a piece of the transaction pie. In this bustling ecosystem, success lies in capturing the attention of customers through smart strategies that prioritize people at the heart of every transaction. Ntombenhle ‘Enhle’ Mposula, a seasoned expert in the South African payments industry, believes that building trust is essential in economies that have historically excluded certain groups.

With nearly two decades of experience spanning various sectors including banking, telecommunications, fintech, and global payment systems, Mposula has gained valuable insights into the inner workings of the payments landscape. She is dedicated to addressing the complexities of sectors that require digitization and financial inclusion to thrive.

Mposula’s journey began at FNB’s SpeedPoint division, where she gained hands-on experience in card payments. Over the years, she expanded her knowledge by pursuing diplomas, certifications, and a BSc in digital technology. Moving from banking to telecoms to global payments, each career move was a deliberate step towards understanding how value flows through the system and how to enhance it.

In her current role at Ecentric, Mposula is focused on developing infrastructure for merchants that enables them to accept secure, future-proof payments. She emphasizes the importance of tailoring payment solutions to meet the needs of diverse consumer preferences, whether it be through Payshap, BNPL, biometric, or QR-based payment methods.

Beyond financial inclusion, Mposula envisions a future where all individuals have equal access to financial tools and opportunities. She believes that true equity is achieved when everyone can participate in the economy, access credit, and conduct cross-border transactions with ease. By prioritizing the needs of SMEs and underserved communities, Mposula aims to empower businesses of all sizes to thrive in the digital economy.

As a member of Women in Payments, Mposula is committed to ensuring that diverse voices shape the future of payments. She advocates for inclusive policymaking within the payment industry and believes that integration is key to unlocking the full potential of payment systems. By seamlessly integrating payments into everyday life experiences such as public transport, healthcare, and small businesses, Mposula envisions a future where payment solutions are not only efficient but also deeply embedded in the fabric of society.

In a rapidly evolving payment landscape, Mposula believes that providers who prioritize user-centric design, seamless integration, and fast innovation will emerge as leaders in the industry. By building payment solutions that feel intuitive and natural to users, companies can bridge the gap between technology and real-life experiences, ultimately driving meaningful change in the way we transact.
