Faf de Klerk praises rising star Morne van den Berg in Springboks victory

In a disappointing showing by the reigning world champions, the Springboks managed to secure a 42-24 win over Italy at Loftus on Saturday. One of the standout performers in the match was 27-year-old scrumhalf Morne van den Berg, who earned the title of “man-of-the-match” in just his third official Test for the Springboks.

Van den Berg, affectionately known as “Krappie”, showcased his talent and potential throughout the game. Despite a few early mistakes, he redeemed himself with a stellar performance that included two first-half tries. One of the tries came from a driving scrum, while the other showcased his individual skill as he evaded defenders to score.

Following the match, Van den Berg expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to represent the Springboks and contribute to a winning cause. He credited the dominant pack for making his job as a scrumhalf easier and emphasized the privilege of playing alongside such talented teammates.

Faf de Klerk commends Van den Berg’s growth and performance

Veteran scrumhalf Faf de Klerk, who replaced Van den Berg in the 54th minute, praised the younger player for his exceptional performance. De Klerk described Van den Berg as a “fantastic player” and highlighted his willingness to learn and grow within the team.

De Klerk, a double World Cup winner with 59 caps for the Springboks, emphasized the importance of having players like Van den Berg in the squad. He acknowledged the rising star’s potential and quality, noting his impressive contributions for both the Lions and the national team.
