Seven students from Lawra Senior High School are feared dead after a tragic incident on the Black Volta River at Dikpe. The students were on a routine morning jogging session when they decided to cross into Burkina Faso. Their boat capsized mid-journey, plunging all occupants into the river.
Out of the ten students on board, three were rescued alive, but the fate of the remaining seven remains unknown. A search operation is currently underway, with local authorities and responders mobilizing to locate the missing students. Divers have been deployed to comb the river, but the strong currents of the Black Volta have complicated rescue efforts.
There are fears that the students may have drowned in the river. The community is in shock and mourning as they await updates on the search and rescue mission. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of water bodies and the importance of safety measures when traveling on boats.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the students, their families, and the entire Lawra Senior High School community during this difficult time. We hope for a successful rescue operation and for the safe return of the missing students.
