Orlando Pirates made a significant announcement on Friday, revealing that they have decided to part ways with defenders Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako. In a statement released on their official Twitter account, the club expressed gratitude for the contributions made by the two players and wished them well in their future endeavors.

Thabiso Monyane, aged 25, has been officially released from his contract with Orlando Pirates, making him a free agent eligible to join any club of his choice. The talented right-back had a successful run with the Buccaneers, making 35 appearances in all competitions during the 2023/24 season. However, his playing time decreased this season, with only 12 appearances, the last of which was in a league match against Cape Town City on January 8th.

Speculation has arisen that Monyane has been offered to rival club Kaizer Chiefs, as reported by the SABC. It remains to be seen if he will make the move across Soweto to join the Glamour Boys.

In addition to Monyane, Orlando Pirates have also bid farewell to Paseka Mako, a 31-year-old left-back who made 26 appearances in all competitions for the club this season. Despite his contributions, Mako has been deemed surplus to requirements by the Pirates’ management.

Mako’s standout season came in 2022/23 when he played a key role in Jose Riveiro’s squad, helping the Buccaneers secure victories in the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup. However, his playing time has decreased this season, leading to the decision to release him from the club.

As the two defenders embark on new chapters in their careers, Orlando Pirates expressed their gratitude for their commitment and wished them the very best for the future. The club will now focus on reshaping their squad for the upcoming season as they aim to achieve success on both the domestic and continental fronts.
