A recent wave of vehicle break-ins has left residents and visitors in the Loop on edge. According to a community alert from the Chicago Police Department, a burglar has targeted at least 13 vehicles in parking garages since late Friday night.
The burglar has been gaining access to cars inside residential garages and public parking facilities by smashing the side windows of the vehicles. In many cases, he has stolen items from inside the cars, leaving owners frustrated and concerned.
The most recent incidents occurred in various locations within the Loop. The burglar broke into seven cars in a garage in the 600 block of South La Salle, followed by five vehicles in a garage in the 800 block of South Wells, and another vehicle in a garage in the 100 block of West 9th Street.
Witnesses have reported seeing the burglar fleeing the scenes in a gray Lexus sedan with Ontario, Canada, license plates. The suspect is described as a Black male wearing a black hoodie, gray sweatpants, and black and gray Jordan gym shoes.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the burglar to contact detectives at 312-744-8263 and reference crime pattern #P25-3-026. It is crucial for the community to come together and help law enforcement bring this criminal to justice.
