Investigation Launched into Fatal Shooting at Barberton Liquor Outlet
Authorities in Mpumalanga have initiated a thorough investigation into a tragic shooting incident that took place at a tavern in Barberton on Sunday. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, resulted in the deaths of two individuals, with another individual currently undergoing treatment in hospital.
No Arrests Made Yet
While the South African Police Service (SAPS) have opened a case of murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting, no arrests have been made as of yet. According to Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, regional spokesperson for the SAPS, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear at this stage.
Reports suggest that a group of armed suspects entered the liquor outlet and began firing shots, causing serious injuries to the three victims present at the scene.
Two Victims Succumb to Injuries
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officials were informed that the three victims had already been rushed to the hospital. Sadly, two of the victims did not survive their injuries, while the third individual continues to receive medical care.
There is a possibility that additional victims may have sustained injuries during the incident but have yet to come forward.

As investigations into the shooting progress, authorities have established a dedicated team led by Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi. This team of experts is committed to apprehending the perpetrators responsible for the tragic incident.
Major General Mkhwanazi has reiterated the team’s commitment to ensuring that justice is swiftly served in this case, and reassured the public that all efforts are being made to bring the culprits to justice.
