The CECAFA 2025 Beach Soccer Championship is set to kick off the season for the Zone in a grand manner. This inaugural championship will be hosted by Kenya at the Pirates Beach from June 6-11, 2025. Yusuf Mossi, the CECAFA Competitions Director, has expressed his anticipation for the event, expecting eight teams to participate.
In addition to the teams from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Zanzibar confirming their participation, invites have also been extended to other Member Associations outside the Zone. Mossi is optimistic about receiving positive responses from these invites, which will further enhance the competition.
The CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship is seen as a stepping stone towards establishing more Beach Soccer competitions within the CECAFA Zone. The foundation laid by this inaugural event is expected to pave the way for future tournaments. Mossi highlighted the importance of this championship in promoting the sport and uniting teams from different countries in the region.
Apart from the Beach Soccer Championship, a series of other tournaments are lined up for the season. These include the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, Dar Port-Kagame Cup, CAF U-17 Zonal qualifier, CAF African Schools Football Championship Zonal Qualifier, CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifier, and the CECAFA Women’s Challenge Cup.
