A 20-year-old Sentenced to 15 Years for Carjacking in Lincoln Park

A man, identified as Noah Sidney, has been handed a 15-year prison term for carjacking a Lincoln Park resident in October 2023. The incident took place on a night where a federal law enforcement helicopter was aiding Chicago police and state troopers in an anti-carjacking operation.

The carjacking occurred around 7 p.m. as a 31-year-old man was unloading groceries from his Audi Q3 in the 2200 block of North Seminary. Sidney approached the victim, brandished a firearm, and demanded the keys, wallet, and phone. The victim complied, and Sidney drove off with the stolen car.

On that same night, a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement task force, which included a U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter, was actively operating in Chicago.

Upon learning that the victim’s hijacked car contained two AirTags, Chicago police initiated tracking of the devices and shared their location with the helicopter. The helicopter swiftly located the Audi and began providing real-time location updates to ground units. When the car eventually parked in the 4700 block of South Martin Luther King Drive, an Illinois State Police trooper apprehended Sidney after a chase down the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Following the successful apprehension, Alderman Brian Hopkins commended the Illinois State Police for their crucial role in the capture of Sidney, who was in possession of the stolen vehicle.

The Audi was promptly returned to its rightful owner, and Sidney, on Tuesday, entered a guilty plea to aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon. In exchange for his plea, Judge Angela Munari-Petrone imposed a 15-year prison sentence, with Sidney required to serve at least half of the term before being considered for release.
