Two career criminals, Denzel Brown, 29, and Marvin Dankwah, 26, have been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting an off-duty NYPD cop in Queens over the weekend. The incident occurred at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, leaving the 25-year-old officer with a graze wound on his leg. Brown and Dankwah are also facing charges of first-degree robbery and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the shooting.

According to sources, investigators are looking into whether the suspects were attempting to carjack the off-duty cop’s neon green BMW X4, which had the license plate “SHEEESH” and was found with a bullet hole in its front windshield. The wounded officer managed to drive away after the shooting and stopped at a nearby location, where he received medical attention and was listed in stable condition.

The suspects fled the scene in a gray older model Nissan but were apprehended by police shortly afterward. Brown, who has a history of four prior arrests, served approximately five years in state prison for a rape conviction in Brooklyn. He was released from the Fishkill Correctional Facility in August 2022 and was on parole until January 2023. In addition to the rape conviction, Brown has also been arrested for robbery and obstruction of governmental administration in the past.

Dankwah, on the other hand, has 10 prior arrests, with his most recent arrest occurring on April 2 for allegedly using counterfeit money at a CVS in Cambria Heights. He was released on his own recognizance in that case, as the charges were not bail-eligible. Both Brown and Dankwah are awaiting arraignment in the shooting case.

In response to the incident, the New York City Police Benevolent Association expressed gratitude that the injured officer is expected to recover and that the suspects are in custody. The union also highlighted the need for the justice system to address the growing issue of crime and ensure the safety of both law enforcement officers and the community.
